Book Blog

I would like to have meaningful communication with parents, students, community members, and other educators regarding different book topics.  Currently, I am reading America’s Failing Schools by W. James Popham.  This is a great book about why it appears to many that public schools are failing to meet the needs of our nation’s students.  The book is written for parents and educators who want to better understand how many current state assessments are not good indicators for what students have learned and what types of assessments may better demonstrate student knowledge and ability to use this knowledge.  My favorite part of the book is regarding how we can bring about a change in our current educational system.

Recogized Rocks!!

Thanks to all of our staff, parents, and students for their hard work on the TAKS (Texas Assessment onf Knowledge and Skills) testing this fall.  We have obtained Recognized status for the 2007-2008 school year!

It has been the philosophy at ACFT that we focus on students success, not necessarily TAKS scores, knowing that everything else will fall into place.  Our students are experiencing success on a regular basis and I expect that our students will continue to grow academically and our teachers will grow professionally.

We are dedicated to student engagement and holding students responsible for setting their goals and reaching their goals.  We want our children to have the desire to learn!

Great things are happening at the Academy at Carrie F. Thomas Elementary and we are excited about what the future holds for our students!
